Help your tenants get to grips with money
Budgeting is a vital part of getting to grips with finances, and while living on a limited benefit income it could be the solution to avoiding financial difficulties. Knowing exactly how much money you have to spend is the key way to avoid overspending.
However, with the changes to the benefits system looming, tenants are going to have to learn to manage their money in a different way. Even once their benefit income has been maximised, the housing cost element will in many cases, not be enough to meet the rent charged.
This course has been developed specifically for housing staff to introduce financial capability issues and the generic advice principles and skills that will help deliver support to tenants on issues relating to the key areas of financial capability.
You will learn:
- Ways to engage tenants
- Who we are talking about and what their current experience is
- Understanding attitudes and behaviours to money – identifying needs
- Helping tenants make positive choices and enabling them to make informed decisions
- Getting ready for their new home
- Preparing to budget
- Making the most of their money – banking, borrowing and savings
- Dealing with debts
- Ideas for embedding in practice.
